تدوينة مابعد منتصف الليل

فكّرت كيف يمكنني أن أقاوم النوم كي لا تفوتني صلاة الفجر... طرأ في ذهني أن أرتب جدول أعمالي وترتيبات خط سير كتابة الوحدة الرابعة من رسالة الدكتوراه... أنهيت ذلك بأسرع مما توقعت.. فحاولت إيجاد أمرٍ آخر يبقيني مستيقظة.. فتحت مدونتي وقلت "أدوِّن!" تحت عنوان تدوينة ما بعد منتصف الليل..

في الحقيقة.. استوقفني العنوان.. وتذكّرت أن استخدام -منتصف الليل- يوحي بالشاعرية والرومانسية.. كما أن الوقت ليس بمنتصف الليل بقدر ماهو وقت السحر -الذي يعد أكثر روحانيةً وإيمانيةً-

بدأت أتساءل.. هل هذه صور نمطية عن الوقت ومعانيه؟ أم أن لكل وقت خصوصيته الحقيقية؟ أي توقيت يناسبك للكتابة؟ وعن ماذا تكتب وفي أي وقت؟

شخصياً أنا أميل لاحتمال أن لكل وقت خصوصيته أكثر.. فببساطة.. أعتقد أنني إذا بدأت في الكتابة والتعبير عما يجول في ذهني الآن.. فأنا سأعتبره من الأمور الشخصية التي لا أحب أن يشاركني فيها أي أحد.. بينما في النهار سأكتب عن أمور عامة قد أناقش فيها أمراً أو فكرة..

سؤالي لك.. ماذا تكتب بعد منتصف الليل؟؟

أجل.. إذا كنت تريد إثراء المحتوى العربي في المجال السمعي وتحديدا الكتب المسموعة والبودكاست.. فلا أحد يمكنه التفوق أو التميز على السرد الرائع للأستاذ سامي يعقوب..

في تدوينة سابقة.. تحدثت فيها عن الكتب المسموعة وماهية المعايير التي اكتشفت أنها تجعلني أستمع وأنهي كتابا مسموعا مدته أكثر من ٨ ساعات.. كتبتها باللغة الإنجليزية لأنني لم أجد كتبا عربية مسموعة يمكن الإصغاء إليها.. ولكنني تذكرت أنني في عام ٢٠٠٩ استمعت لبودكاست الأستاذ سامي يعقوب والمكون من ٥١ حلقة، مدة كل منها ١٥ دقيقة تقريبا.. ولم أكتف بالاستماع إليها فقط.. بل قمت بتخزينها في جهاز الآيبود.. وكنت أعيد الاستماع إليها كلما شعرت بالرغبة في سماع "صوت عربي" بدلا من الأصوات الإنجليزية التي كانت تحيط بي.. صحيح أن البودكاست لا يغني عن الكتب المسموعة.. ولكنه كان المنفذ الوحيد لي..

يمكن الاتفاق على معايير الكتب المسموعة الناجحة سواءا العربية منها، الإنجليزية ، الألمانية أو غيرها..
فهي باختصار كالتالي:
١. وجود فرقة متكاملة لسرد الكتاب، من الراوي الرئيسي إلى أصوات الشخصيات المختلفة
٢. التمكن من استخدام مؤثرات صوتية وموسيقى تتناسب مع نص الكتاب
٣. تقدير أفضل سرعة للقارئ.. فلا يكون بطيئا مملا ولا سريعا غير مفهوم
٤. ودون أدنى شك: المحتوى المتميز!

أما ما يجب أن يهتم به الفرد -المستمع في هذه الحالة- فيمكن نصححه بالتالي:
١. ميوله الشخصي.. والمواضيع أو الكتب التي يرغب في الاستماع لها
٢. اعرف ما تستمتع به أذنيك.. لا تشتري كتابا مسموعا لأن عنوانه مشهور.. فقد لا تجد أذنك مصخية إليه.. والسبب.. أنك لاتدرك ماتتلذذ به أذنك.. ولا بأس في أن تجرب الاستماع إلى ٣٠ ثانية من الكتاب لتحكم عليه ^.^
٣. ربما لو تبدأ ببودكاست أفضل.. لأنك ستكتشف ما تحبه أذنيك.. بعدها اشتري كتابا مسموعا!

My first Wordle ^.^

I love flipping through pages.. and I enjoy listening to words!

Jumping in & out London's undergrounds to reach the British Library encouraged me to try an audiobook. At that time, the BL had an exhibition Lewis Carroll and a full section of their Shop was devoted for Carroll's little girl: Alice .

As simple as that.. my story with audiobooks started.. I decided to write this post to every reader whom everyday duties are keeping them away from the joy of flipping a book.. There are simple tips which will help you in choosing the right audiobook..

Personally, Alice's Adventure in Wonderland was the best audiobook I've ever heard.. For a very simple reason.. There wasn't a single narrator.. But a whole crew with excellent sound effects .. I En.Jooooooooo.Y.ed it!!

My second and third audiobooks were bad choices.. Not because of the story-line or the ideas discussed.. The true reason was the voice-tune of the narrators..

One of Dorris Lessing novels & Dostoevsky's Notes From The Underground..

I forced myself to listen to the first till the END.. The second... I couldn't pass the very first sentence: "I'm a maaaaaaaaaad man!" .. The reason??? Again.... The narrator's slow-motion voice tune.. it might suits the character's personality.. But I personally couldn't tolerate it!

I was bored.. Especially in my way back from the BL and after being fed-up with good amount of readings & notes-taking.. My mind won't even function to solve a Sudoku problem.. I missed listening to a book.. Tried to search for another audiobook at the BL Shop.. But wasn't convinced by any.. Reached home & thought of the reason which hindered me from getting an audiobook.. Opened my iTune.. Searched for audiobooks.. & discovered the magic button.. PREVIEW!!!

I spent time listening to random previews of different books by different narrators.. By doing so, I managed to understand my "ears" interests..

Just recently.. Decided to move to another experimental stage.. listen to a book that I've already read! I went with Boothman's How to Make People Like you in 90 Seconds or Less.. I noticed a very simple, yet, crucial difference.. I found it very useful to listen to the instructions of the exercises.. In fact, the given seconds for the listener to write their answers is what make the whole difference.. Similarly, is the audiobook of Gladwell's "blink"with the additional star of playing music as a background while the narrator is referring to it.. There is no way you would be able to "hear" it while reading the book.. The audiobook contains all mentioned music..

Thanks iTune for providing a wow service.. That is giving the listeners the choice to speed-up the narrator's voice.. I've finished blink in around 4 hours and a half.. Oh! And the 30 sconds rewind option -just in case you lost your concentration.. Or somthing interrupted your listening-

Now I can go back to Notes From The Underground.. speed it up.. & finish it! Guess I'll enjoy it ^.^

صوتك أمانة ^.^

ماذا تعني هذه الجملة؟

"صوتك أمانة" سمعتها وقرأتها كثيرا خلال جلبة انتخابات المجلس الوطني الإماراتي.. ومجلس الشورى العماني..
.. ودائما ما كنت أردد في نفسي.. ليس الصوت فحسب.. ف:
"بصرك أمانة"
"جسدك أمانة"
"فعلك أمانة"
"عقلك أمانة"
"أسرتك أمانة"
"مالك أمانة"
"نفسك أمانة"

لا تهمني نتائج الانتخابات.. بقدر ما مايهمني معنى "صوتك أمانة" المتأمل في معناه يدرك كم هو رائع!! ولوطبق بحذافيره واستشعره الإنسان في حياته اليومية.. لتغير ماقع حياته اليومية.. وتطور به مجتمعه.. فالمؤمن ب"صوتك أمانة" سيقول الحق أينما كان ولو على نفسه.. فهل الجميع قادر على ذلك؟؟ ولو تأملنا قليلا،.. لاكتشفنا.. بأن "صوتك أمانة" تعني أن تحافظ على صحة صوتك.. على الأقل توقف عن التدخين لتحافظ عليه!!

مالذي دفعني للتفكير ب"صوتك أمانة" الآن.. في الحقيقة.. البحث الذي أقوم به يعنى بالدور الألماني في بناء جسور للحوار بين الأوروبيين والمسلميين.. ومعهد الحوار الاستراتيجي أحد الجهات التي أتابع فعالياتها بين فترة وأخرى..

القصة بدأت.. عندما كنت أبحث في دور الجيل الثاني والثالث من الأتراك في أوروبا.. وهل ينظر إليهم كمواطنين أوروبيين أم أتراك.. مسلمون.. وغرباء؟؟ قرأت العديد من المقالات عن قضايا الاندماج.. والتخوف من أعدادهم المتزايدة.. وقرأت الكثير عن الشخصيات العربية والتركية الفاعلة في أوروبا.. كان من بينهم فتاة.. لا أذكر اسمها.. ولكنني أتذكر جيدا موقفها.. قرأت عن قصتها بشكل سريع.. تركت أثرا في نفسي.. ولكن لاعلاقة لها ببحثي فلم أكتب عنها أي شيء.. كان هذا تقريبا في عام ٢٠٠٩.. في نهاية السنة.. وتحديدا.. شهر نوفمبر ٢٠٠٩.. عدت لمتابعة آخر مستجدات معهد الحوار الاستراتيجي.. فاستوقفتي صفحة ترشيح لجائزة -غير موجودة الآن-.. يشترط في الشخص الذي يمكن ترشيحه.. أن تكون سيدة.. أوروبية.. مسلمة.. تركت أثرا في المجتمع الأوروبي..
في البداية لم أعر الأمر أية أهمية.. ولكن.. تذكرت "صوتك أمانة!" قلت في نفسي.. تلك الفتاة تركت أثرا في نفسي قبل أن تترك أثرا في أوروبا.. فقررت المحاولة لترشيحها.. لأن "صوتك أمانة" تعني بالنسبة لي.. أن أجتهد في البحث عمن يستحق صوتي.. ويتحمل المسؤولية.. فإن لم أجد.. أشجع الآخرين على التركيز في حياتهم ليصبحوا مؤهليين للترشح في المرات القادمة..

شكرا لغوغل.. بحثت عن القصة.. وحفظت اسمها.. ووجدت عنوانها وبريدها الإلكتوروني.. غير أنني خفت ألا تكون المعلومات دقيقة.. فقمت بمحاولة إرسال رسالة إلكترونية إليها مباشرة.. خلال أقل من عشر دقائق.. ردت علي.. ابتسمت.. أكملت إجراءات الترشيح.. ونسيت الموضوع..

منذ أسبوع.. كان علي تجديد المعلومات لرسالة الدكتوراه.. فوجدت هذا الموقع بأسماء الذين تم اختيارهم لانتقاء العشرة الفائزين..

هي لم تفز.. ولكنها كانت على رأس القائمة في كتيب الجائزة..

الإحساس بأن اسمها كان من ضمن الأسماء المرفوعة.. أشعرني بأنني قد أديت ماعلي.. في المرة القادمة.. هي ستركز على إنجازاتها .. وأنا كذلك.. سأحرص على إنجاز مشاريع من نوع خاص ^.^

‘War to make the world safe for Democracy’

Abstract:

At first almost unnoticed after 1850, then with significant intensity after the onset of the Great Depression of 1873 in Britain, the sun began to set on the British Empire. By the end of the 19th Century, though the City of London remained undisputed financier of the world, British industrial excellence was in terminal decline. The decline paralleled an equally dramatic rise of a new industrial Great Power on the European stage, the German Reich. Germany soon passed England in output of steel, in quality of machine tools, chemicals and electrical goods. Beginning the 1880’s a group of leading German industrialists and bankers around Deutsche Bank’s Georg von Siemens, recognized the urgent need for some form of colonial sources of raw materials as well as industrial export outlet. With Africa and Asia long since claimed by the other Great Powers, above all Great Britain, German policy set out to develop a special economic sphere in the imperial provinces of the debt-ridden Ottoman Empire. The policy was termed “penetration pacifique” an economic dependency which would be sealed with German military advisors and equipment. Initially, the policy was not greeted with joy in Paris, St. Petersburg or London, but it was tolerated. Deutsche Bank even sought, unsuccessfully, to enlist City of London financial backing for the keystone of the Ottoman expansion policy—the Berlin-to-Baghdad railway project, a project of enormous scale and complexity that would link the interior of Anatolia and Mesopotamia (today Iraq) to Germany. What Berlin and Deutsche Bank did not say was that they had secured subsurface mineral rights, including for oil along the path of the railway, and that their geologists had discovered petroleum in Mosul, Kirkuk and Basra.

The conversion of the British Navy under Churchill to oil from coal meant a high risk strategy as England had abundant coal but no then-known oil. It secured a major concession from the Shah of Persia in the early 1900’s. The Baghdad rail link was increasingly seen in London as a threat to precisely this oil security. The British response to the growing German disruption of the European balance of power after the 1890’s was to carefully craft a series of public and secret alliances with France and with Russia—former rivals—to encircle Germany. As well, she deployed a series of less public intrigues to disrupt the Balkans and encourage a revolt against the Ottoman Sultan via the Young Turks that severely weakened the prospects for the German Drang nach Osten. The dynamic of the rise of German assertiveness, including in addition to the Baghdad rail, the decision in 1900 to build a modern navy over two decades that could rival England’s, set the stage for the outbreak of a war in August 1914 whose real significance was a colossal and tragic struggle for who would succeed the ebbing power of the British Empire. The resolution of that epic struggle was to take a second world war and another quarter century before the victor was undeniably established. The role of oil in the events leading to war in 1914 is too little appreciated. When the historical process behind the war is examined from this light a quite different picture emerges. The British Empire in the decades following 1873 and the American Century hegemony in the decades following approximately 1973 have more in common than is generally appreciated.

لم أخطط لزيارة كيمبردج.. ولكنني اضطررت لوصولها للاطمئنان على إحدى المبتعثات هناك.. وكالعادة.. أول شيء يلفت نظري في أي منطقة.. هو ماهية المواصلات المتعارف عليها.. تجولت في أرجائها ولم تفارق الابتسامة محياي.. فحيثما التفت.. أجد دراجة هوائية!! هي بالنسبة لهذه المدينة العريقة.. جزء لا يتجزأ منها.. بحثت في أرشيف الصور التي التقطتها في ٢٠١٠.. ووجدت مجموعة لابأس بها تعكس ثقافة التنقل بالدراجات الهوائية..

قد تختلف أسباب انتشار هذه الثقافة بين سكان كيمبردج.. فالمرجح أن هناك ثلاث عوامل رئيسة.. الأول الطرق الضيقة "العتيقة" للمنطقة وعدم وجود مواقف لسيارات في الأماكن الحيوية.. الثاني كون المدينة ثقافية جامعية ونسبة المتعلمين فيها عالية جدا.. فهم بين مبتعث وذو دخل محدود.. أو أنه واع بالأهمية الصحية والبيئية للدراجات.. والسبب الثالث هو بعكس مدينة لندن المربوطة بمدينة أخرى من سكك الحديد الأرضية أسفلها.. لا توجد هذه الخدمة في كيمبردج..
بالنسبة لي كطالبة اتصال.. كنت أشعر بأن الدراجات الهوائية في كيمبردج تعتبر المادة الإعلانية الرئيسية في المدينة إذا ماقورنت بكم الإعلانات التجارية في المدن الرأسمالية الكبرى.. ووجت هذه المقارنة ممتعة.. لأن الحقيقة.. أن نسبة الإعلانات الكبيرة كانت قليلة جدا.. أغلبها إعلانات على أوراق ..

A4 و A3 لاتكلف كثيرا


قيمة أخرى يمكن ملاحظتها.. هناك من قد يدعي بأن إيقاف الدراجات الهوائية في أي مكان "يشوه منظر المدينة" ولكنني أؤمن بأن الدراجات الهوائية في كيمبردج جزء لايتجزأ من ثقافتها.. والقيمة المعنوية في ذلك هي كسب الوقت.. لاحظ.. هم يوقفون الدراجات الهوائية في كل مكان.. لأن المدينة تعج بالمنتديات الفكرية.. فإما أن تصل في الوقت.. أو أنك تخسر المعرفة!!


وهناك دائما حلول مبتكرة لمواجهة المطر.. وتوفير المال.. وإعادة استهلاك الأكياس البلاستيكية!! المقعد مغطى بكيسة بلاستيكية لمتجر سينزبيري ^.^

الحمدلله.. لم يهطل المطر في ذلك اليوم.. كان يوما مشمسا على عكس واقع جو بريطانيا ذو المزاج المتعكر..

حيثما كنت.. لابد لك من أن ترى دراجة هوائية.. مما قد يدعوك لمساءلة نفسك.. لماذا لانرى هذا في بلادنا؟؟ بالمناسبة.. في فصل الشتاء قد تتجمد كيمبردج.. ومع ذلك.. هناك اهتمام خاص وعناية فائقة بالدراجات..

إذا أردت زيارة كيمبدرج.. فعليك أن تتأكد من أنك قد "استأجرت" الدراجة الهوائية المناسبة ^.^

Zayed University Books Parliament

As a Zayed University Alumna.. and as a Book Lover.. I feel responsible towards the WOW Library we are having!! Thus, decided to create a label for my blog posts as well as a twitter hashtag of #ZUlibrary to pass tips and contacts to make the most out of Zayed University Library..

Allow me to first introduce what I call: "The Books Parliament" visually <3











The feeling of being in the middle of this "Books Parliament" is amazing.. you can hear and see book looking at you.. and speaking directly to you!!
Keeping aside my "emotions," lets have a look at its 3 floors..

First Floor: The Learning Enhancement Center (LEC)
This is the most active part of the library. It has been designed to give that less-formal feeling for students in which students are gathered to develop their English Skills, eat at Colombiana Cafe or simply chat!! oh, and restrooms are located in this floor ^.^






Second Floor:
The Heart of the Books Parliament! besides the above wow photographs of the Parliament.. there are several useful rooms and areas: Study area, Group study rooms, Graduate room, Presentation Rooms, Periodical Section, Reference Section and General Books from A to O..













Third Floor: General Collections from O to Z and empty shelves for future use.. Plus the wow view over the Books Parliament..
